Rapport from the steering committee meeting in Dublin 12-13th of September

We had our first face-to-face meeting, since we got elected last year. We have of course had a couple of Zoom-meetings in between.

The main two topics of our meeting was the constitution and a possible mini conference in 2026. We also discussed the possibility of organizing an annual webinar and realized that we will need a group outside the steering committee working with the webinars. And an academic coordinator, to help us find lecturers.

The president of IPCA, David Buick, joined us on Thursday to discuss the situation with the constitution. It would be preferred if some changes were made on the 2025 Bangkok conference, so that the constitution of IPCA Europe could be changed after that.

The problem with the constitution is, that there seems to be a couple of different versions of it and that is something that IPCA World Wide needs to attend to, before IPCA Europe does.

In the afternoon the secretary general of ICCPPC, Doris Schäfer also joined the meeting and gave us an update on what is going on in their organization.

We also visited Wheatfield prison and got a tour of the prison, meet some of the inmates and the staff. Wheatfield is a closed facility on medium security, with about 600 inmates. It is always interesting to get to see other prisons than “ones own”, though it gives perspective on how we work in our different countries.

To be able to sit down with our fellow chaplains and other staff members for a cup of tea is helpful in many ways:

Compte rendu de la réunion du comité directeur à Dublin du 12 au 13 septembre 2024

 Nous avons eu notre première rencontre en présentiel depuis notre élection l’an dernier. Bien évidemment , nous avions eu plusieurs réunion de travail par Zoom entre temps.

Les deux principaux sujets à l’ordre du jour de notre rencontre etait les statuts et la possibilité d’une mini conférence en 2026.

Le président de IPCA Monde, David Buick, nous a rejoint jeudi pour la discussion sur les statuts. Il serait préférable d’attendre des modifications éventuelles lors de la conférence mondiale à Bangkok en 2025. Dès lors, les statuts de IPCA Europe pourraient être révisés.

Le probleme concernant les statuts actuels concerne quelques discordances dans leur rédaction et IPCA monde doit les traiter avant que IPCA Europe le fasse à son tour.

Dans l’après midi, la secrétaire générale de ICCPPC, Doris Schäfer nous a rejoint et nous a présenté la situation actuelle de son organisation.

Nous avons aussi visité la prison de Wheatfield et parcouru les bâtiments en rencontrant des détenus et le personnel pénitentiaire.  Wheatfield est un établissement de sécurité intermédiaire avec environ 600 détenus. C’est toujours très intéressant de visiter des prisons différentes des “ nôtres “ car celà permet de voir les contextes de travail des aumoniers de prison dans les différents pays européens.

Pouvoir s’asseoir et partager une tasse de thé avec nos collègues aumôniers et des membres du personnel est vraiment constructif:
